Fiona Marry, Chief Executive Officer – Europe at Bridgehaven, recently spoke to Insurance Day about the growing demand for specialty insurance across the European market.
In the interview, Fiona highlights increasing demand in underserved areas such as cyber, environmental liability, renewable energy and transactional risk. She points to broader structural drivers including climate transition, digital infrastructure and emerging technologies, all of which are creating a need for more tailored insurance solutions.
She also notes that, while the opportunity is significant, these evolving risk areas present challenges around underwriting expertise and pricing, given their complexity and the pace at which they are developing.
Fiona discusses the dynamics of the European market, including fragmentation, varying regulatory environments and differing levels of market maturity, while highlighting the continued growth of delegated authority and increasing interest in MGAs.
Looking ahead, she expects further specialisation in specialty lines, alongside greater use of data and analytics, and increased participation from alternative capital providers.
Amid ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainty, Fiona emphasises the importance of disciplined underwriting, strong portfolio management and robust scenario analysis in navigating future risks.
